The Freesat platform is slowly developing into one of the most promising and easily accessible television platforms, with new and exciting features being added all the time.
This month saw the unveiling of Humax's long awaited PVR capable box. Originally set to be unveiled at IBC in mid September, the box was actually unveiled at IFA at the beginning of October. The box has dual tuners, allowing you to record one program whilst watching another, as well as huge 320GB hard disk drive to store all those programs that you want to record. The box can record 160hous in standard definition and 80hours in high definition. The box can record in both High Definition and Standard Definition, and features the regular HDMI, SCART and component output as well as optical output and ethernet support. There is currently a rumoured release date of late Novemeber as the release for the box.
ITV have been broadcasting some great films including the british television premier of King Kong on their HD channel. This oppurtunity gave many viewers the chance to fully utilise their High Definition capable set top boxes and television. ITV have announced that there are more films to come on their HD channel.
Many new channels have been added onto Freesat recently. Channel 4 has added Film4 + 1, E4 + 1 and More 4+1 to it's list of channels on Freesat. For the scottish, there is a new BBC channel called BBC Alba being launched, along with the Best Direct shopping channel and the Audi Channel. For all you Bollywood fans out there, Zee Music is also being placed on Freesat so that you can dance along to your favourite songs.
A new Radio Channel has been launched - Planet Rock. So bring out the air guitar from the cupboard and start head banging!
Freesat has also won an award for 'Best Contribution to Digital TV in the UK' from DTG and Pace plc. The other contender for the award was Virgin Media for it's integration of BBC iPlayer into it's catch up on demand service. DTG and Pace plc. comented about how the UK was leading the way in taking up new delivery models for digital content.
