Many people think Welsh was a language designed to confuse foreigners, but since the Welsh Language Act 1993, it has been important for literature in Wales to be produced in both English and Welsh. The Celtic Manor has taken the initiative to have their website translated into Welsh.
The translation work was carried out by VSI-thinking themselves, as one of the team is first language Welsh, and has had experience with translating documents.
It was easy to place the translation into the site, once it had been completed, through using the multi lingual module in the Content Management System. The multi lingual module works by associating one page with another, for example, a welsh language page with an english language page, meaning that a translator can go straight to a site, and then put in the relevant content. The site has language flags, enabling you to switch the language at click of a button, so that you can understand what the company has to offer.
Having your site in a number of other languages can help hit a larger audience, as more and more people can read your website. Although English is classed as the worldwide language, having your website in another language helps widen your target audience.
