Growing demand for 3D video games will in turn drive the uptake of 3D television, according to a senior executive at Ubisoft (game developer), one of the world’s biggest game publishers.
By 2013,3DTV will be in all UK homes, said Murray Pannel, head of marketing for Ubisoft in the UK. “It’ll start slowly this year, but like high definition television, I wouldn’t rule out the fact that this will be installed in everyone’s living room in three year’s time,”
Games developers have been throwing their weight behind the 3D revolution. An update by Sony in April means that 3D gaming on the PS3 is now available, while Nintendo are due to release the 3DS handheld in coming months.
Ubisoft estimates that around 50 per cent of all games will be in a 3D format by 2012, because the experience is considered more immersive. Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft said: “I think in 2011, we will see maybe 15 to 20 per cent of games that will be 3D on next-generation consoles… the following year, it will be 50 per cent.”
